Meehan in double Meydan bid

Brian Meehan has never been scared to take on the big boys at their own game and they come no bigger at the latest stage of the Meydan Carnival on Thursday.
Meehan is a top - but often under-rated – trainer, and if he's ready to send two to contest the UAE 2000 Guineas then it's more than worth taking a careful look to his contenders.

To be honest (Mehdi) has a lot going for him.

Godolphin's Rassam is set to go off as a short priced favourite in the capable hands of a certain Frankie Dettori, but Meehan is a class act and is not a trainer to travel thousands of miles in pursuit on a wing and prayer.
Mehdi - ridden by Kieren Fallon - looks to have a real chance and can be backed at 15.00, with his trainer declaring: "He ran a promising fourth in the trial here a fortnight ago in a very tight battle for places after a long break from his final start in 2011.
"He has a fighting chance of pegging back the three who finished in front of him and to be honest has a lot going for him."
Meehan's other runner Burano, who is at 11.00, and is more than capable of making an impact on this affair because, although still a maiden, he has tackled particularly strong animals during his juvenile campaign.
