Dettori guides Gamilati to victory

Gamilati provided some much-needed winter cheer to the frost-bitten race fans of mainland Britain with Frankie Dettori conjuring up thoughts of a summer of rich promise.
Sheik Mohammad's three-year-old was ridden to a fabulous victory in super confident mode by Britain's favourite Italian, sloshing home at 1/2.
Given the manner of victory, that looked very generous indeed as the horse went from last to first in a matter of a few strides as the pack turned for home.
He put the race to bed in remarkable style as frenzied whips were raised behind him with jockeys getting lower and lower into their saddles. Ultimately, stablemate Pimpernel was the closest to him at the end but that was a very poor five lengths which really could have been double that such was the ease of Gamilati's success.
It was the third victory of Gamiliti's career after a win at Meydan last month and in a Newmarket Group 2 in July last year.
